What’s Your Interior Design Style?

What interior design style are you? It’s one of those questions that designers are constantly asking their clients. And today we’re asking you! Even with an armory of Pinterest images at your fingertips, it can still be challenging to describe what you like about a room or even what style it is.
With an abundance of unique design aesthetics, it can be daunting to decipher which style will work best for you. A great starting point for an interior design project is to learn a bit about each of the design styles and how they differ from one another.
Over the years, we’ve found that four key styles define our aesthetic; the styles we have listed below are those that have resonated the most with us - and with our customers.
The four key design styles are not the be-all-end-all list, as styles are constantly changing and evolving. Many people decide to create a combo of multiple design aesthetics. Take a look and see if any of them speaks to you—or if you prefer a combination of styles. So long as the items in your home share one characteristic—they’re sure to work beautifully together.
THE NEW TRADITIONALIST

Traditional is one of the oldest and most common design styles so let us start with that. Rooted in heritage and traditional shapes and forms: This design style offers classic details, sumptuous furnishings, and an abundance of accessories.
However, for the New Traditionalist, classic isn’t set in amber to remain unchanged forever. Instead, it is a timeless style that is updated to work with ever-changing lifestyles; the look is refined, serene, and above all, elegant.
There is depth and dimensionality within most new traditional designs - it’s all about conscious layering, formality, and incorporating pieces with structure and symmetry. New traditional homes often feature dark, finished wood, rich colour palettes, and variance of textures and curved lines.

THE ECLECTIC

If the Eclectic had a motto, it would be Why match when you can mix? Eclectic is a bit of a catch-all category to describe interiors that don't fit neatly into just one style. Because of this, many think eclectic design has an anything-goes spirit. However, there is a fine line between layered and collected and busy and distracting.
A praiseworthy eclectic interior balances colour and texture. Think of it as a high-energy collection of carefully selected pieces brought together to create a culture-rich interior. It has many similarities to Boho as far as the collected nature, the colour combos, and the curated aesthetic. Though, the pieces are less organic and more refined.

THE NATURALIST

We love the idea of bringing the great outdoors into your home. As the name suggests, the Naturalist goes all-in on natural materials and textures: richly figured wood with minimal finishes, sisal and jute rugs, rattan baskets, grass-cloth wallpaper, and plenty of plants.
The Naturalist style relates to modernity in its clean aesthetic and colour palette. But this style is all about layering neutral textiles and textures to create interest rather than introducing additional colour.
It’s neutral, it’s inviting, and it’s casual. If you love the boho look without the colour, or if you like minimal spaces but find them chilly, a Naturalist collection is the “neutral territory” you’ve been seeking. Nature provides enough order to soothe and enough entropy to surprise, making it the perfect interior design muse.

THE CURATOR

For the Curator, quality trumps quantity every time. In this style, you’ll see a lot of minimal yet impactful touches that give it that posh and elevated look without having to add on too much of the extra detail.
A curated style is filled with luxe textiles like leather, suede, velvet, and neutrals paired with jewel-toned hues. It relates to modernity in its sleek aesthetic - the clean lines of the furnishings allow the luxurious materials to command attention. Gold, brass, and sparkling glass lighting and accents heighten the element of sophistication. It’s high-end and polished and employs all the very finest of finishes.
