The Plain Handloom collection is made in India from wool and cotton - some with the addition of art silk to give a subtle sheen. The designs are singular solid colours, some with a few different shades of the one colour to provide a touch of movement.

Our Jute rugs are carefully crafted in India and can be made in most sizes. You can of course buy these rugs on their own, but we like to pair them with one of our handmade oriental rugs.

Sometimes you fall in love with the colour, style and pattern of a handmade rug that just isn't quite a big enough size for your space. You can purchase a jute rug as an add on that you can layer underneath your handmade rug, framing the desired area. 

Other times you want to keep your spending down and so going for a smaller handmade rug, in which case you can do the same thing and layer it with a jute to fill the desired space. 

Our jute rugs come in generic sizes, but if you would like something more specific in size, just GET IN TOUCH and we can make it for you. 

*Currently the rugs in stock have a max width of 300cm. Anything bigger will be a bespoke order with a lead time of 4-6 weeks (size dependent).

Made by the Lori (also known as Luri) tribes in Iran (Zagros Mountain area). 

Persian Lori rugs are geometric & nomadic in design and often contain animal motifs & figures. They tend to depend on rich combinations of colours – reds, blues, greens, and yellows. Beautiful hues and shades of rich and jewel tone colours. 

They are hard wearing and excellent quality. Good for higher traffic areas.

Tajabad is a village within the greater Hamadan region of North West Iran. Their rugs are well known for their geometric designs.

They are incredibly durable and are timeless pieces.

This handmade rug is a Senneh Kilim, from Iran. In the western part of Iran the province of Kurdistan is situated. Its capital today is Sanandaj, but in carpet context the older name is still used, Senneh. Rugs from the city of Senneh are super elegant, with a fine design and intricate patterns. 

Kilim's are flat tapestry woven rugs. They are produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands of the weave to produce a flat surface with no pile.

This is a Kilim rug -  a flat woven rug (has no pile). Kilim's are perfect for warmer weather, or in a space you want something light. Popular in kitchen dining areas.

Nahavand is a town in the province of Hamadan. It's in the West of Iran. The rugs produced in this area are very good quality and as they use a high shine wool, they are very durable.

In terms of design, they are quite nomadic, with geometrical motifs.

The history of needlepoint goes back thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians who used small diagonal stitches to sew together the canvas for their tents. The same diagonal stitch is now known as the “tent stitch” and is one of the most popular needlepoint stitches today. By the early 19th century it became a popular weave in England and America, and then spread throughout Europe, eventually reaching China, where they are made to a good standard today. Like this beauty!

Do note that Needlepoint's are flatweave rugs - they have no pile. Do get in touch if you would like to add an underlay to your order, as these tapestry style rugs are thinner than most. Similar in texture to Aubusson Rugs.

Mazlaqan or Maslaghan is a district near Hamadan in western Iran. It is known for the presence of nomadic peoples (Kurds, Lors and Turks). All these people have contributed to Maslaghan rugs and carpets, especially the geometric patterns associated with Nomadic rugs.

These rugs have highly defined geometric patterns and are among the finest quality of all nomadic rugs. They are highly durable.

Overdyed rugs are made from carefully selected rugs that undergo a unique process of colour neutralisation before being overdyed in exciting new colours. Only naturally dyed carpets with natural wool fibres can be used to get the most out of this effect.

Tabriz rugs are from the city of Tabriz, the capital city of East Azarbaijan Province in the north west of Iran. It is one of the oldest weaving areas and makes a diverse collection of hand-knotted rugs. They are made with a good quality, fine, soft wool. 

The term 'Raj' refers to the number of knots in a 70mm span. The higher the 'Raj', the more knots per m2, which is a higher quality of rug. They take longer to weave and more skill to get the design as intricate as they are.

Kashmar rugs are highly detailed and intricate pieces of art, woven in the Khorosan province in the east of Iran. Many Kashmar rugs are very rare and valuable pieces. 

These rugs are characterised by their unique patterns, often borrowing various designs from different regions. They are woven on a cotton foundation, with a soft wool pile.
