Growing tired of a lifeless interior? There is nothing else that can bring a room to life like plants. In fact, you’ll be hard pushed to find a bigger interior trend than the rise and rise of houseplants. Our appetite for verdant succulents, lush green foliage, and bringing the outdoors in - isn’t showing any sign of slowing down this year.
It’s no secret that houseplants help bring new life and energy into living areas that are a bit bare. They are a great way to brighten up a simple colour scheme as the vibrant greens will pop against crisp neutral hues. In addition to the aesthetic values that plants can add to a home, houseplants have many health benefits too. Surrounding ourselves with green, living, and breathing decor is incredibly beneficial for our bodies and minds!
The best indoor plants create the right amount of intrigue. They come in a dizzying array of sizes, shapes, and colours - they’re free-form and organic, yet sleek and sculptural. Most people are simply not aware of the many extraordinary ways to decorate with plants to enhance our homes.

AU NATUREL

Houseplants work incredibly well with natural finishes like wood, concrete, and stone. The wooden aesthetic of Edine Russel’s (Editor in Chief, Elle Magazine Netherlands) mezzanine bedroom is offset perfectly with the trailing plants in hanging baskets.

Don't be afraid to experiment; no one gets it right the first time. Using various stools, low tables, and different kinds of shelving, you can create jungle arrangements to put your green-leaved friends. Use old furniture pieces that people would've sat on!
SIZE MATTERS

From miniature succulents and tall palms, to wide, sprawling monstera, you'll need to assess the proportions of your space. The trick is to create different levels and change the heights of where the plants are placed. Some plants can be higher up to capture the light - that way they don’t interfere with each other.
RUGS & PLANTS

Where do the rugs come in, you say? Well, no home is complete without a plant/rug pairing. Rugs set the tone and vibe of the room; the collaboration of plants and rugs has a unique way of making any space feel bright, fresh, and striking.
Both plants and rugs add colour, dimension, texture, and volume to a space. The rug must match the interior - as for the plants, you will want to coordinate those as well. It is pretty incredible how you can totally change a room just by swapping out your rug and adding a new leafy friend to the mix. You can go from boho to mid-century in five minutes with minimal effort and feel like you have a complete room refresh.
