Your bed, your place of rest, of peace, of passion. It’s your place to cosy up at the end of every single day. And what better way to enhance your impending tranquillity than by lining your pathway with a rug to compliment your sanctuary.
Rugs are a great way for you to showcase your personality through colour, texture and pattern to introduce an extra spark of style into your bedroom. The possibilities that can be achieved with the addition of a rug are infinite, but figuring out exactly what to do can be a bit of a tricky process.
When it comes to the bedroom, the shape of the area rug should compliment the layout of the room and the dimensions of your furniture. Depending on their size and positioning, they can be used to unify or zone the space and are a great starting point for your bedroom design.
For instance, using too small a rug can make the room look disconnected and out of sync which is why, when in doubt, we always suggest going for the bigger rug: it will bring cohesion to the furniture, making the room look and feel larger than it is.

The most common and preferred rug placement is underneath the bed. Place it perpendicular to the direction of the bed, extending it out into the room beyond the foot.
Depending on the size of the rug, you can slide it completely under the bed or start an inch before the bedside tables. Check it is long enough to extend 18-24 inches on either side for the perfect balance.
This placement works particularly well for larger-area rugs in spacious bedrooms - creating a warm, comfortable spot for your feet when they hit the ground in the morning.

Laying small, deep pile rugs by the side of the bed is a brilliant bedroom flooring idea for bringing warmth underfoot. For larger rooms, you can place small area rugs on either side of the bed with a 12” to 18” border between the carpet and the walls.
If your bedroom is lacking in the space department, but you still want to inject some personality into it, you can opt for runners on either side to create a similar effect. Alternatively, if your bed is against the wall, place a small or medium-sized rug beside it.

A well-placed rug can bring a bedroom together - creating a warm, cosy, restful environment. Place the rug at the end of the bed, tucked under it slightly - this orientation works well if you have limited space on either side of the bed but have ample space at the end.
Laying a rug at the foot of your bed makes a thematic central-point within the room design. We recommend pairing a rug in this layout with a bench seat; it needs something on top to ground it - otherwise, it will look odd on its own.
