Kashan is one of the oldest cities in Iran. It is located in the centre of the country - in the Isfahan province. Stunning Kashan rugs have been crafted here since the 17th Century, during the Safavid dynasty. Kashan has beautiful architecture and the city is renowned for it's wonderful holiday homes. The rugs are among the most famous of all Persian rugs, and tend to be what most people think of when they hear the term 'Persian rug'. They are characterised by their central medallion on a red field, with a navy/ ivory border.

The Qashqai are renowned for their pile carpets and other woven wool products. They are sometimes referred to as "Shiraz" because Shiraz was the major marketplace for them in the past. The wool produced in the mountains and valleys near Shiraz is exceptionally soft and beautiful and takes a deeper colour than wool from other parts of Iran.

Qashqai rugs have been said to be "probably the most famous of all Persian tribal weavings".

The Qashqai are a tribe that usually move about depending on the season - moving from the Isfahan province to south of Shiraz (Iran). 

Kilim's are flat tapestry woven rugs. They are produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands of the weave to produce a flat surface with no pile.

Persian Bakhtiyar rugs are made by tribes in the south of Mahallat, between Hamadan and Isfahan (Iran). They are dyed with vegetable colour and are of really good quality. This particular Bakhtiar is an antique - up to 80 years old.

Meshkin (Meshgin) is a city in Iran in the Ardabil Province. The city is well known for its Azerbaijani rugs and also it's mineral springs! 

This Meshkin is high quality and is around 50-60 years old, so truly vintage.

This is a vintage Caucasian rug. The weaving tradition in this area was to explore as many variations as possible with the most limited colours - they're known for their fabulous and clever use of colour combinations.

These rugs are made with a cotton foundation and have a soft, thin wool knotted in an asymmetrical way. They are known for their high quality, with beautiful natural dyes. They are one of the most durable of Persian rugs and can be very valuable.
