Farahan is located in central Iran, south of Tehran - near the cities Arak, Kashan and Qum & was home to the original Farahan rugs. These rugs are made with a cotton foundation and have a soft, thin wool knotted in an asymmetrical way. They are known for their high quality, with beautiful natural dyes. They are one of the most durable of Persian rugs and can be very valuable.

Kerman is an ancient city in the south-east of Iran. It's famous for it's high quality handmade rugs, especially in large sizes. They are known for their floral designs, or the tree of life structure. A good quality, antique Kerman like this is something to treasure.

Viss rugs originate from Viss, also referred to as Viss, a small town located near Hamadan. However, for a small town, Viss has an eclectic mix of population. Kurds, Turks, and the nomadic people of Bakhtiari all call Viss home, and it is the influence from these diverse groups that is an integral part of the weaving of wool rugs here. Due to its largely nomadic population, the majority of Viss rugs feature geometric designs, which is an indication of a tribal rug. Its location so close to Hamadan has influenced the local weavers to create their wool rugs using the Hamadan weave.

Tabriz rugs are from the city of Tabriz, the capital city of East Azarbaijan Province in the north west of Iran. It is one of the oldest weaving areas and makes a diverse collection of hand-knotted rugs. They are made with a good quality, fine, soft wool.

The term 'Raj' refers to the number of knots in a 70mm span. The higher the 'Raj', the more knots per m2, which is a higher quality of rug. They take longer to weave and more skill to get the design as intricate as they are.

The Qashqai are renowned for their pile carpets and other woven wool products. They are sometimes referred to as "Shiraz" because Shiraz was the major marketplace for them in the past. The wool produced in the mountains and valleys near Shiraz is exceptionally soft and beautiful and takes a deeper colour than wool from other parts of Iran.

Qashqai rugs have been said to be "probably the most famous of all Persian tribal weavings".
