We’ve been looking for a one-stop-shop for Interior Design tips, and it just doesn’t exist! So today, we have the second instalment of The A-Z of Interior Design Tips.

The goal here is to help answer all of your simple design need questions in one space. We hope this encourages you to get started on creating the perfect space in your home.

M - Mirrors can be a great choice in any room. They bounce any available light around a room, giving the illusion of a brighter space, and they create depth, essentially doubling the size of your room. Use their magical powers to your advantage!

N - Is for natural light. Maximise the natural light you have in a space by hanging your curtains high so that they can be pulled back to let the light shine in. If you don’t have a lot of natural light, try not to fight it and contemplate designing a cosy space with darker paint colours instead.

O - Organisation is vital at home; clutter will only make you feel agitated and suffocated. Make sure you have the right kinds of storage for your needs. If space is tight, consider multi-tasking furniture like trunks as coffee tables, bookshelves with baskets, and beds with hidden drawers. If you haven’t used it in the last year, be ruthless! Give it away to a charity or sell it to purchase the items you really love.

P - Nothing transforms a room faster or cheaper than a bit of paint on the walls. If you are nervous about making a change, try taking a risk in a room you don’t use as often. And remember, it’s just paint. If you hate it, just paint over it!

Q - Is for quirk. It creates whimsy, proves you don’t take yourself too seriously, and can make a stuffy room look more relaxed. We are all quirky in our own little ways, so find something unique that reflects your personality, and don’t be afraid to show it off in your home.

R - Rugs! Every home needs a Persian or Oriental rug, they anchor a space, define it, add warmth, and help layer a room's decor. A graphic rug is enough to create an entire world of its own. We have a beautiful collection of oriental rugs here at Lilla Rugs, don't forget to come and check them out at our showroom

S - It's all about statement-making. Every room needs a statement SOMETHING: Whether you choose bold wallpaper, a fabulous oversized light fixture, large artwork, a huge mirror, or an amazing paint colour – make sure your room has a little wow factor.

T - Is for texture. Injecting a plethora of textural elements that play off one another is a great way to create a welcoming space. The beauty and comfort are in the juxtaposition and contrasts of textures and materials, so consider mixing fur with worn leather, a concrete planter with a whispery fern, a high-pile Moroccan rug with a metal table. Be sure to layer different elements in a space for a stunningly layered look.

U - Unique and unusual pieces. If you can swing it, consider going bespoke on certain items like built-in units, sofas, and headboards. Sometimes the right piece just isn’t out there. Commissioning someone to make something for your requirements isn't much more expensive than buying a mass-produced item – plus, no one else out there will have it!

V - Vintage is better. Consider your ecological footprint before making a large purchase – can you find the same or better second-hand? Save items from landfills by purchasing from antique stores, thrift shops, online auctions, selling websites, and from your local car boot sales, flea markets, and estate sales.

W - Never underestimate the power of white in a space. It presents the perfect backdrop for your decor, brightens a room, and accessories in white pop against darker walls and patterns. It's a timeless hue that pairs well with every colour of the rainbow and never ever goes out of fashion.

X - Xperiment. Don’t be afraid to experiment to find out what works well in a space. Move furniture around to see if it’s better placed somewhere else in your home, swap your curtains, rugs, cushions, and accessories from one room to another.

Y - YOU! It's your home, your way. Trends can be fun, but they are quickly replaced. Figure out what you really love and surround yourself with those things. If you love it and you’re the one living with it, then that is all that matters?

Z - Zesty! Give your room some spice, some flare! Be bold! Below we have picked out 3 of our favourite Persian and Oriental rugs for you this week.
