This is a vintage Caucasian Shirvan rug. Shirvan is located just to the south of the Caucasus mountain range - east of Gendje and to the west of the Baku peninsula. The weaving tradition in this area was to explore as many variations as possible with the most limited colours - they're known for their fabulous and clever use of colour combinations.
