So, you’re looking at the bathroom wondering, “Does my bathroom need a rug?”. A topic of much debate and a question we see popping up in our inbox often. So for this week’s post, we decided to give you an answer. Yes, it does! We spend a lot of time in our bathrooms, so it’s only right that we should make them into a luxurious, modern sanctuary for function and relaxation.

If you're searching for ways to infuse your bathroom with a dose of warmth and personality, look no further than the Persian rug. Having a rug in your washroom has many benefits - they add a cosy spot for your feet in the mornings, introduce colour and design to a monotone room or neutralise a bathroom with busy tiles. These timeless textiles will inject a touch of glamour and convert this typically cold room into an attractive and sophisticated space. Modern bathroom design is centred around a simple, clean, minimalistic look and feel. No longer restricted to matchy-matchy tile work, it’s now not uncommon to see fresh plants, artwork, and real Oriental rugs. Are you short of imagination when it comes to modern bathroom ideas? Don't panic! Bathrooms have got a lot more fun to decorate in recent years, so you don’t have to sacrifice style for practicality.

A lot of people question whether or not you should put a vintage rug in the bathroom - In all reality, it’s one of the best places for it! Wool is universally known as being a hardy fibre that can withstand large amounts of people traffic and moisture; this makes it an ideal candidate for bathrooms with consistently moist conditions. Hand-knotted wool rugs are some of the most durable rugs anyone can own, as well as being the easiest rug material to clean. They work well in bathrooms regardless of the damp, humid conditions because wool fibres allow air to circulate more efficiently than silk or synthetics.

I can tell you wholeheartedly that you will find a handmade wool rug is the most practical, and beautiful, answer for kitchens and baths. Next time you’re questioning whether or not to buy that beautiful vintage rug for your bathroom, don’t think twice. To help inspire your next remodel, here are some of our top tips.

For the longest time, people thought there was only one solution for rugs in the bathroom: the traditional bath mat. Then came along the ‘area rug as a bath mat’ concept. If you’re lucky enough to have a tub, especially a stand-alone tub, a Persian or Oriental rug can be a gorgeous addition to your space.

You really can’t go wrong with one of these! They’re lightweight and make a tremendous impact on the design of the space. Most importantly, they’re incredibly functional; the softness of the rug makes the space feel more spa-like, and it’s great to have something soft to walk on. A few things to remember if you’re thinking of refreshing your bathroom: get a non-slip rug pad or backing to prevent the rug from shifting and any accidents from happening. If you're not sure how to get hold of one, do reach out and we can help you.

The powder room can feel cramped and generic - but thanks to a vivid Persian rug, it's got personality for days!

Your powder room is a wonderful way to say “welcome into our home”, it should reflect your style and create a statement. Even with limited floor space, a Persian rug is a godsend; it's capable of making an instant impression, that your guests will carry with them. The best part is these rugs are a lot smaller, so you can mix up the feel in your space by switching out different rugs.

Let's face it; we spend an ample amount of time getting ready at our vanities. A rug set in front of the sink will be a safe and comfortable spot for your feet while you spruce yourself up in the mirror. Another look to try is several small accent rugs; either layered over each other to create a bohemian look or place them in different areas around the room. There's no home accessory more versatile than a Persian rug; they are adaptable in use as they in design and define your bathroom connecting elements.

Truth be told, we are obsessed with runners! They are a refreshing change from the usual rug; adding a little more vibrancy and luxury to your everyday bathroom look. If your bathroom is long and narrow, runners are a chic and gorgeous way to guide the eye. And just like usual carpet runners; they add length without adding width - perfect for smaller spaces or cramped floors.

Before committing to a purchase, try out a rug you may already have around your home that fits in the space and see if you like the look/experience. We also offer house visits for a small fee, if you would like to try before you buy. The worst that can happen is you decide it’s not for you, but the alternative could completely change how you feel about the design of your space. So what would your dream bathroom look like?
