When it comes to designing your guest bedroom ideas and inspiration are endless! The bed should be the centrepiece of the space; a mattress on a basic frame just doesn’t scream ‘Welcome to our home’. Go with a theme that speaks to your home’s mood and location, make sure to have fun with it though. A stylish headboard can define the space and give it an edge creating a classic relaxing feel. Loose airy linens make for an effortlessly chic bed situation. Dress things up by layering on duvets and blankets so your guests can be in control of their temperature while they sleep. Think soft texture, neutral colour palettes and all the right additions to create a calming atmosphere and a restful night's sleep.

If your home doesn't have enough space for a guest bedroom, do not fret. Just put a daybed into the corner of another room in the house to serve double duty. You can make it super cosy and comfortable with tons of pillows and throws.

Don’t forget to provide robes, towels and slippers to make your guest room feel like a hotel. If you want to go the extra mile, leave a jug of water on the bedside table along with some handcrafted soap for an added personal touch.

Storage for clothes and a place for guests to sit is crucial. Introducing a dreamy window seat is a superb addition to a guest bedroom. This will give them a private reading nook to cosy up in the winter months when they need some time away from the communal area. An ideal way for them (and you) to enjoy some personal space during their visit. If you have a larger space, then think about a desk area or love seat with a bookshelf on the side; take note to fill the bookshelf with books though, you can stock up on exciting novels at your local charity shop. A dresser is another nice touch, in case your guests would like to unpack their belongings and feel more at home.

Style is important, though providing your guests with all the right storage and essentials is what will really help to make them feel taken care of. Set your guests up for success with a handy place to stash clothes, toiletries etc. A stylish dresser is a great place to start! Also, consider pulling in a woven hamper for your guests to easily toss used towels and linens into. This simple addition majorly ups the hospitality factor.

START A CONVERSATION WITH ART

Dial up the art! Fill up your empty wall space and add style and colour with art. Unless your guest bedroom is also used as a shared space, you can really decorate it more imaginatively than a room that's used every day. Express your own style in the room to share a bit of yourself with your guests, a gallery wall will give the place character and make it feel more like a home without taking up valuable surface space. While you won't want to display family photos in your guest room, you can showcase favourite artwork that you've created or go for a kitschy stencilled accent wall, which will be a sure conversation starter.
