Bespoke Rugs: Guide
You may hear the term 'bespoke rugs' a lot out there, but aren't entirely sure what exactly that means. Truth is, the process is slightly different with every company. It will mainly depend on how the rug is made (machine, handloom, handknotted) and where the rug is made.
At Lilla Rugs, we only offer handmade rugs, so leadtimes when it comes to those 'made to order' can be expected. Our niche are Persian rugs, that are all one-off pieces. The downside to this, is that sometimes you fall in love with a rug of a certain design or colour-way, but it isn't the correct size. As it is a one-off, you can't just pick the size in that particular design. That's where bespoke rugs can come in really useful.
So how do you get started? Here is a step-by-step:
1. Method: Do you want handloom or handknotted?
Handloom pros:
Fast (usually 6-8 weeks), low price point, modern, bamboo silk can give the desired shine
Handloom cons:
Artificial materials, slightly less durable, limitations on design
Handknotted pros:
High quality, endless design options, higher quality wool, natural fibres
Handknotted cons:
Takes time (min 4-5 months), higher price point
2. Size: what size do you need? This is important to decide before moving forward as it can often effect the layout of the design, and is hard to amend once the process has begun. It will also be a big factor for your costs and timings.
3. Design: do you know what design you would like? Is it an exitsing design of ours (usually handloom), or do you have a digital make up of the specific design you want? Perhaps it's one of our Persian rugs you like but you want to amend some colours.
4. Colour Selection: come into our warehouse and select the exact colour codes from our colour box.
5. Digital Proof: Once we have the design references and colours, we will draw up a digital proof of what your rug will look like, for you to approve. Note that this part of the process only really happens with the handknotted bespoke rugs.

6. Place order & wait for your very own bespoke rug to arrive!
