It's a new year, a new you, and even a new home! For the first time in a while, the New Year has a glimmer of celebration, and a powerful wave of hope for the future is sure to be present. With a new year underway, last year's trends behind us, and new ones on the horizon, it's prime time for us to mull over our favourite interior goals.
Choosing New Year’s Resolutions should be intuitive and natural - it doesn’t have to be a chore or something that takes hours of deliberation. Let’s celebrate 2023 with some positivity, high hopes, and the desire to make the world a better place. Why not start with your home? As they say, a happy home is a happy mind.
We have written a list of resolutions that can work within your busy lifestyle, create more freedom, stimulate creativity, and ultimately cultivate a connection with those you love and the community around you. Try one of these lifestyle tweaks each day, and you'll jumpstart your mind and home to make 2022 your best year ever.
BECOME A PLANT OWNER

Commit to buying at least one house plant in 2022. Besides adding beauty and colour to your home, indoor plants can lower stress, anxiety, and depression. Research shows that actively caring for plants calmed the autonomic nervous system and lowered blood pressure.
And when people work near plants, they report greater concentration, satisfaction, and perceived air quality. Swing by the garden centre after brunch this weekend and try your hand at growing indoor plants. Air plants (you practically do nothing), or even container vegetable gardens.
After you become more comfortable with indoor plants, you may discover that you actually like tending to plants and decide to start growing your own. Filling your home with plants can be a great way to perk up any room in your home. Click here to find out how to freshen up your decor with indoor plants.
CUT OUT DISPOSABLES

It’s no secret that we have a problem with pollution. Mindful living and protecting our planet go hand in hand. Not only is it better for your health, your wallet, and the environment, reducing your disposables helps you teach your kids good practises.
In 2022 we are recommitting our efforts to ensure the world neither needs, wants, or uses single-use items or packaging. That includes coffee cups! Instead we are shopping in bulk buy stores where you’ll find everything from rice, lentils, and flour to cereal, tea, herbs, spices — even sweets.
Bulk purchases ultimately create less waste. Opting for reusable items and cutting down on the overall number of everyday items you need to dispose of is key to saving our planet.
MAKE CHAOTIC ZONES CALM

The turn of the new year is an ideal opportunity to get organised! Decluttering your home is a way of making space for a zen mentality.
Make the chaotic zone by the door a calm, happy space. Set up simple systems (a basket, a shoe bench, hooks) for tidying. Then move art or flowers from the living room and invest in a mirror and a colourful runner rug for the perfect welcome.
The freedom you feel from a decluttered home will be worth all the effort. Take it one step further by vowing to keep your drawers, shelves, and closets tidy all year round.
SUSTAINABLE STYLE

This new year is an opportunity for us all to really make change happen. Consider putting sustainability at the centre of home décor in 2022 - it is time to be more conscious about our homeware purchases.
Start investing in your home and better the way your family lives: embrace healthier living by using natural, ethical materials; like wood, wool, linen, and cotton.
What will last in your home, and who do you want to support? By purchasing unique handcrafted statement pieces, you will be preserving artisanal tradition and craft. We have a beautiful selection of Persian overdyed rugs that are eco-conscious and ethically made.
Here at Lilla Rugs, we strive to support local artisans each and every day. Below we have selected three gorgeous rugs from the Persian overdyed Collection:
