Searching for advice on how to design a child's bedroom? Long gone is the humble, single tin of baby blue or pink emulsion. Today, the best kids’ bedrooms and nurseries are creative, gender-neutral, and impeccably stylish.
Ask any parent, and they will tell you the same thing - no matter who you are or how old your child(ren), your life is directed by the humans you raise or bring into the world. How you create their space will depend on what they are into and how they interact with the world around them.
You'll want to create a space that reflects their interests but is also stylish enough to grow with them when they (inevitably) change. The trick is to balance the functional aspects with the design motifs that make a room feel fresh. Why not make it a fun project they can be a part of, helping you pick colours, patterns, and themes.

WILD CHILD

This personality type just oozes energy. You know you have a Wild Child if your kids have ants in their pants and are always up for mischief.
You’re likely the parent who is often freaking out over your child’s safety because you know he/she/they is non-stop in every game, activity, or even school day. And while this can be pretty stressful at times, this wild, bold, and brave personality is what makes your child so special.
SENSITIVE SOUL

Do you have a child who’s empathetic, passionate, and often emotional in difficult situations? If it's a yes, then you probably have a Sensitive Soul. These children feel everything deeply; this is both a blessing and a curse.
A sensitive soul needs a room dedicated to their sensory needs, where comfort is the priority. A large sofa favourable to snuggling or an armchair by the window is perfect for this because they encourage connection or disconnection to support a sensitive child when they want to hit the reset button.

What sets this child apart is the enthusiasm around anything right-brained, and naturally you should try to design your home around this. For example, create a mini-studio for your child to sing and play drums. Or set up a chalkboard wall in their bedroom for doodles to display pictures or posters.
Whatever your Creative Kiddo is into, make sure that you are highlighting it, celebrating it, and designing with a focus on it in all spaces of your home. You get bonus points if you engage your little one in the decorating process.
THE EXPLORER

This is for the child who is always curious, the one who wants to see everything. The stone collector, the insect enthusiast, the brave detective. That’s right, the explorer! Bring the outside in, create a feeling like you're playing in nature.
Expand your child’s mind with images of different animals, trees, countries. And when picking a colour for The Explorer, make sure that it's an earthy one, preferably with green or grey undertones. Whatever your child is into, make sure that it’s a big part of your home… and thus their life!
