I don’t know about you, but last week felt like Winter was on its way. With this new season nearly on our doorstep - It’s time to turn inward, embrace the chill and make your home even more inviting. Every holiday season seems to have a defining trend. But infusing your spaces with what’s au courant can be tricky - some of these trends have endured over the years, while others turned out to be a flash in the pan.

Cold weather and its oozing cosy feeling is one thing we cannot escape. While you always want your home to look chic, wouldn’t it be great if your home was nice and toasty during the winter months too? With it drawing closer to winter now, the desire of staying in bed all day is just getting stronger. It’s still a little early to say what the defining trend of Winter 2020 decor will be, but we have some clues (featuring Persian and Oriental rugs). To help us make sense of it all, we’ve been following some of our favourite designers and architects to see what trends they're embracing this year, from colour palettes to furniture, even landscape design and beyond. Following are a few winter decorating ideas that will guarantee a cosier climate to snuggle up in. If you are planning your next interior design project, you might want to consider these key ideas to be on-trend.

COLLECTED DECOR

The past is coming back into the present with collected vintage accents in interior design. Collected decor gives a nostalgic vibe that adds an extra layer of cosiness to any space. As much as we’re drawn to the luxe simplicity of a high-end hotel room and the carefully strategised floor plans of staged houses on the market, it’s our creature comforts that truly bring our homes to life: The cherished pieces inherited from family members, the accents collected spontaneously over time, the art you cared enough about to invest in, all these items band together to tell the story of who you are.

But if you don’t have a vast collection of antiques or world items, there are plenty of vintage-inspired items that will do the trick. There’s a fine line between beautifully collected and cluttered, however, and there may still be a need for new furniture or a desire for trendier accents in your home. This time around, interior designers will be incorporating one or two statement pieces instead of a complete vintage themed home. Today we look at Persian and Oriental Rugs, a staple collected decor piece that each and every home should acquire. Take a look at some of our favourites below.

There is nothing like a romantic dinner for two, or three, or four or more. Much like the kitchen, the dining room is the heart of the home - it's where you enjoy delicious meals and quality time as a family. Even though holiday gatherings are definitely going to be smaller than usual this year, that doesn’t mean you have to skimp on style. Romantic décor is often viewed as elegant and luxurious, with stylish textures and colours: It can be created using any style of décor, from modern to contemporary, rustic, country, or shabby chic. A romantic dining room can really add a sense of charm to your meal and make you feel like you are dining out in a restaurant, yet you never have to leave home. There are a slew of inexpensive design projects you can tackle over a weekend or in a matter of minutes to take your dining area to the next level. If romance is in the air in your home, take a look at our pick of some of the most elegant private dining rooms.

COSY LUXURY

While we deploy our winter woollies and turn on the heating, think of your home as needing that extra layer too. The clocks have turned back - now we retreat indoors for a life a little slower and a look that feels more homely. After all, we all deserve a few little cosy indulgences during winter, whether that’s a cashmere throw or soft throw pillows for the sofa or reading nook. With short days and early nights, lighting really comes into its own in the wintertime, and the benefits of layered lighting are well-known. But, regardless of how well-layered a lighting scheme is, the wrong kind of lighting will never offer a cosy vibe. Opt for golden or warm bases, which will reflect a warm glow into your room as well as warm white or soft white light bulbs.

NATURAL ELEMENTS

In countries like the UK with months-long winters, residents can’t spend as much time outdoors as they would like. Our year-round solution? Incorporating natural elements like wood, stone, and raw, organic textiles into our interiors. One of the reasons we love nature so much is our inherent connection to the outdoors and to natural elements that are alive. Not only are these elements on-trend, but they’re also versatile, calming, and timeless. Enjoy a natural outdoor vibe inside your home by decorating the interior spaces with organic-based materials. Natural accessories span a wide range of neutrals, making them easy to include in diverse aesthetics. White and grey stone pair well in minimalist settings, while cherry and dark wood furnishings can be dressed up or down to suit any theme. Select the furnishings that speak to you, that reflect your decorating tastes and individual preferences. Incorporate natural elements to accentuate the mood you desire, such as soothing and tranquil, lively and spirited, or somewhere in between.
