This is an Afghan Kunduz Rug, handmade in Kunduz & it's surrounding villages in Northern Afghanistan.
Kunduz Afghan rugs are finer in quality that Khan Mohamadi Afghan rugs. They have finer knots and a smooth & velvety pile. They have a unique band of flat weave (Kilim) at either end of the rug, are usually deep red in colour, and most often have this all-over repeating pattern.
Afghan Kunduz Rugs are a finer quality than Afghan Khan Mohamadi Rugs. The knotting is typically fine, neat and consistent creating a smooth, velvety pile.
