2024: 6 Interior Design Trends

2024 is here and we wanted to kick off by telling you what you can expect to see in the world of interiors this year. It's always useful to be able to plan and prepare for the year ahead, so through sharing of notes from experts, requests from clients, and ideas that come up in renovation plans, we're here to tell you our top 6 trends.

1. Textured Walls & Textured Floors

Plain finishes on walls and floors are simmering down, and now it's all about texture. Adding texture is a really good way to create depth and warmth, whilst keeping things neutral. You can check out our brand new Textured rug collection here.

2. Brown, Warm Base Colours

You've heard it before from us, but you'll hear it again, brown is here to stay. As stated by House Beautiful, 'this wave of chocolate neutrals has also been noted by a survey on design trends the New York Design Center conducted. Over 90 percent of respondents predict that brown will be the color of choice in 2024.'

3. Artisanal First

The incomparable skill of the human hands is more and more respected, and will continue to be through 2024. Sticking to items that are one of a kind, made with thought and care, are really what will make your home stand out this year. We feel very passionate about this one over at Lilla Rugs, with every piece of ours being handmade by talented artisans.

4. Victorian Details

As mentioned in Elle Decor 'Whether or not we have to thank television series like Julian Fellowes’s HBO period drama The Gilded Age—and its predecessors Belgravia and Downton Abbey—for the renewed interest in the aesthetics of 19th-century design is beside the point, because we’ve moved straight into embracing it'. Crown moldings and chevron floors are growing in popularity.

5. Hidden Technology/ Technology Break

House Beautiful quotes beautifully: "What I think will be a big turnabout in design for 2024, is that more and more of my clients are actually wanting to return to 'dumb homes' at least that's what I'm calling the opposite of a smart home! Harsh blue lights and bright touchscreens that illuminate when you walk by at night are starting to give way to a love of mechanical controls: old-school buttons, switches that toggle up and down, and simpler toilet washlets!" says Nozawa.

6. Colourful Rugs

For a long time it has been very popular to stick to beige wool for your carpet, or a simple sisal, but we are now seeing more and more Interior Designers injecting colour into spaces via the rugs. Earthy tones and jewel colours are on the up!
