Khal Mohammadi rugs have a history unlike most other oriental rugs. They aren't named after a city, or a region, but rather after the designer himself: Khal Mohammad. It was created in Afghanistan.
Nowadays most Khal Mohammadi rugs are woven in or around the town of Kunduz (North Afghanistan).
The wool on this Khal Mohammadi rug is special. It is called 'Belgic' wool, as it has been sent to Belgium to be spun on a machine to get it fine enough to be able to creare this detailed fine design. The wool is velvet in texture.
